Russian fans will be glad to see Alibek Kacmazov (ATP No. 798) make it to the main draw having qualified to the second round on the refusal of his opponent Marco Moschatti (5/0 in favor of the Russian, the Italian withdrew) and then easily outplayed his compatriot Sergei Pogosyan (6/2, 6/0). Alexander Vasilenko (876), a favorite of St. Petersburg fans, was also able to break into the main team. In the first qualifying match he defeated Russian tennis player Alexander Stepin 6/7 (2), 6/1, 10-1, but in the next duel he defeated Russian tennis player Mikhail Fufygin 7/6 (4), 6/2. Russian Petr Bar-Biryukov fully justified his wild card in qualifying, beating Italian Lorenzo Boca 6/4, 6/4 in the first round but then winning the championship tie-break against fellow Russian Alexander Binda 6/4, 3/6, 10-3.
Other winners of the qualifying are Slovak Matich Speck (1,026), Moldova’s Alexander Kozbinov (756), Czech player Andrew Paulson (763), Italian Andrea Guerrieri (766) and Estonia’s Daniel Glinka (850). On Tuesday, February 2, the main draw matches will begin.
The matches will start at 10.00 a.m. on the courts of the Tennis Formula shopping center (Lahta, Petrovskaya Alley, 4, building 2, structure 1,2).
